I first started my training in September 2000 at Bedford College. I began with a level 2 qualification and then advanced to level 3. I gained both levels including holistic treatments, in order to become as versatile as possible. I had always been interested in this industry as during my dancing career, make-up was a huge inspiration.

Once I had left the college I worked in the industry for 1 year before being offered a position as a lecturer at Bedford College. At this time I completed my Certificate in Education to become a qualified teacher. I taught this vocation for four and half years and during this time, decided to launch Matis Beauty within Bedford town to offer an individual, high quality day spa.

Matis Beauty has been open for more than 3 years and I have a professional dedicated team who provide first class treatments and who continue to develop their training and skills to the ever changing industry

My speciality is skin care, and I feel very passionate about this subject. It gives me a sense of worth seeing fantastic results and to more importantly gain customer satisfaction.

I became interested in both beauty and hairdressing at a young age. Dressing up, putting on make-up and playing with peoples hair was all fascinating to me, and still is even to this day. I like making people feel good about themselves as it is a very rewarding experience.

I started a combined course of Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy at Bedford College in September 2005. I completed my NVQ Level 2 where I won an award for outstanding achievement in Beauty Therapy, which was a great honour and completely unexpected, so I then decided to continue my NVQ level 3 in Advanced Beauty Therapy.

When asked why I choose to continue in Beauty Therapy instead of Hairdressing, it is because Beauty Therapy is a lot more challenging and there is a lot more to learn. What interests me most is the anatomy and physiology, learning about the bodies systems, how they work and how the body reacts to the treatments I perform.

Before I started with Matis Beauty I was working as a Saturday girl at Lesley Elliott’s, a hair and beauty salon in Potton. I worked there for four years alongside my A levels studies, and my college courses.

I am passionate about beauty therapy and it’s great to be working with people who feel the same about beauty as I do. Eventually I would love to become a beauty therapy lecturer and pass on my enthusiasm for beauty to students wanting to learn all I have learnt in the last few years. I am also very passionate about massage and facials and would one day like to be a specialist in both therapies. I would also like to learn about health and fitness as it is a big part of anatomy and physiology therefore a big part of beauty.

Since starting at Matis Beauty in July 2007, I have learnt a lot about the treatments that we perform and it has fed my passion for beauty therapy. I’ve picked up a lot by listening to my more experienced colleagues about client care and performance in treatments. I have within the time that I have been at Matis Beauty become fully qualified in Elemis Treatments, Matis Facials and Sk4 Facials which is our electrical anti-ageing facial.

When people ask what my favourite treatment is it’s hard to answer because all treatments are different and that’s what I like about my job. Matis Beauty is an inspirational place to work and I am glad I can be apart of it.

I first became interested in massage when I was given a book on massage as a present for my 17th birthday. It was with this in mind that I decided to look for courses in massage at Bedford College and later that year, I enrolled on the 2 year level 3 Holistic Therapy course. Within this course I studied Swedish body massage, Remedial massage, Aromatherapy (non pre-blend oils), Reflexology, Indian Head massage, Nutrition and Exercise. Within this course, I was introduced to the beauty side of the industry, and it was then that I realised not only did I enjoy the holistic side of treatments but that I thoroughly enjoyed the beauty side as well.

After I gained my qualification in level 3 Holistic Therapy I went on to do my NVQ level 2 in Beauty Therapy also at Bedford College. Within the course I was awarded 2nd place in the annual BROOKS hair and beauty show at the Corn Exchange, which I’m very proud of. I then went on to complete my NVQ level 3 advanced beauty qualification. I am fully qualified in both Matis and Elemis treatments and also gained my certificate in SK4 which is our electrical facial.

Since joining the Matis Beauty team I have enjoyed learning the different techniques that we perform and getting to know the clients. My confidence grows everyday thanks to the support of my more experienced colleagues.

I first became interested in Beauty therapy when I was very young, as my mum did beauty treatments from home. I got to see how good she made people feel and growing up I would always want to do my friends makeup or nails, it’s something I love to do.

As soon as I left school I knew I wanted to go to college and do beauty therapy, so I attended Bedford College and completed my NVQ level 2. Afterwards I became interested in NVQ Level 3. After learning about what was included in the course I decided that this was a good option for me and I then completed my level 3 qualification.

Before I started at Matis Beauty I had a Saturday job at a hair and beauty salon in Gamlingay performing level 2 treatments, whilst doing my college course. This gave me more experience and helped me in completing my NVQ Level 3 qualification.

I am very passionate about beauty therapy and I enjoy working here at Matis and I am proud to be a member of the team. I am very passionate about waxing as it gives me and my client time to talk then I can get to know my clients better. I also am very enthusiastic about facials because facials are very calming and make my client feel relaxed.

I have been interested in hair and beauty for as long as I can remember. I have always enjoyed putting on make-up, having my hair done and painting nails so I decided this could be an ideal career for me. I then decided to see what options were available to me to begin this type of profession.

In 2006 I enrolled on a 2 year combined hair and beauty level 2 course at Bedford College. I began learning many different treatments, rules and regulations for both hair & beauty and soon realised that I enjoyed the beauty industry a lot more.

When I had completed my level 2 course, I decided to enrol in a level 3 course of beauty as there were many more advanced treatments that I found really interesting. During this course I learnt about electrical facials and body treatments, electrolysis, spray tanning, body massage, Indian head massage and nail extensions. I found I had a certain enthusiasm for electrolysis and thoroughly enjoyed it.

During my time at college I gained experience in many treatments as well as client care and professionalism.

I joined the Matis beauty team in the summer of 2009 and have learnt so much in this short space of time. Each treatment intrigues me and I hope to learn much more about them. Matis beauty spa is a very relaxing and calm environment to work in and I really enjoy it.
